What We Do

New York Classical Theatre's all-free productions pop up in nontraditional, public venues throughout the five boroughs. Our productions are dynamic and interactive, inviting the audience to engage with the story unfolding around them.

We do this through our hallmark staging style, Panoramic Theatre. Influenced by 19th Century blocking and single-camera cinema techniques, Panoramic Theatre places the audience at the center of the action, giving them access to an immersive emotional experience. The texts are adapted to inhabit and showcase our unique performance spaces, encompassing the audience in the world of the play and bring life and vitality to each venue.

Our outdoor productions take Panoramic Theatre one step further by physically engaging the audience, who follows the actors from scene to scene throughout the expansive venue. This active participation builds a strong relationship between actors, audience and venue, creating a deeply immersive theatrical experience.

Thanks to a $164,000 capital grant from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs and City Council, we also pop up in vacant, commercial spaces with state-of-the-art theatrical lighting and seating. These unusual indoor venues invite many opportunities for conversation between the venue and story being told.
